2. Eligibility Criteria (as on December 05, 2025)
A. Educational Qualification
Candidates must possess a full-time Bachelor’s Degree in Engineering or Technology (B.E./B.Tech) in the relevant discipline (Chemical, Civil, Computer, Electrical, Instrumentation, Mechanical, or Metallurgy) from a recognized University/Institution.
- Minimum Marks: Minimum 65% aggregate marks (average of all semesters) for General/OBC/EWS candidates, and 55% aggregate marks for SC/ST/PwBD/Departmental candidates.
B. Age Limit
- Upper Age Limit: 28 years as of December 05, 2025.
- Age Relaxation: Applicable for reserved categories as per Government of India rules (SC/ST: 5 years, OBC-NCL: 3 years, PwBD: 10 years). The upper age limit for departmental candidates is 45 years.
3. Selection Process and Exam Pattern
The selection process is conducted in three stages, with weightage given to the Written Test and Interview/GD.
A. Stage 1: Computer-Based Test (CBT)
The written exam is the primary selection tool, replacing the GATE score requirement this year.

- Negative Marking: No negative marking.
- Shortlisting Ratio: Candidates will be shortlisted for the next stage (GD & PI) in the ratio of 1:5 based on their CBT performance.
B. Stage 2: Group Discussion (GD) and Personal Interview (PI)
Candidates clearing the CBT will be called for GD and PI. The final merit list is prepared by assigning a weightage to these stages:
- CBT Score Weightage: 85%
- GD & PI Score Weightage: 15% (Usually 5% for GD and 10% for PI)
C. Stage 3: Medical Examination
Selected candidates must clear a medical examination as per SAIL’s health standards.
4. Salary and Training
- During Training (1 year): Selected candidates will be designated as Management Trainees and placed in the pay scale of ₹50,000 – ₹1,60,000 with a basic pay of ₹50,000 per month, plus allowances.
- After Training: Upon successful completion of training and probation, they will be designated as Assistant Managers in the E-1 grade with a pay scale of ₹60,000 – ₹1,80,000. The approximate Cost to Company (CTC) at the E-1 level is around ₹16.0 Lakhs per annum.
